Why Stay?
Location, location, location. The plush Royal Garden Apartments lie opposite the Scottish National Portrait Gallery just south of St Andrew Square. The main bus and rail stations are within easy suitcase slogging distance. You’re already in the New Town with the Old Town within each reach as is rapidly gentrifying Leith Walk.
What’s it Like?
Swish and spotlessly clean, but mercifully not too minimal. Charming collage of old solid Edinburgh sandstone building and modern apartment. Sonder have managed to steer the décor on just the right side of hipster, with practicality to the fore. You won’t waste time wondering how to work the complicated light panel or find a spoon – it’s all where you need it – making it ideal, for a weekend where you want to hit the ground running. The luxury apartments are fairly spacious too with plenty of room in our two bedroom hideaway for the four of us.
Top Tips
Don’t miss the chance to explore their massive private garden. As you wander around the New Town you will see people strolling around in exclusive green spaces behind locked gates. They are lucky enough to own their own luxury flats here, but mere mortals staying at the Royal Garden Apartments can sneak it too. Our girls loved flying around the grass and walkways, while we were taken with the old air raid shelter that somehow survives here. Book a room high up on the south side to enjoy Firth of Forth views. In this busy part of the city centre, the upper floors are quieter too.
