The Torridon, Wester Ross

The Torridon

The stately Torridon country house hotel enjoys one of the most dramatic settings of any in Scotland. Overlooking Loch Torridon and the mighty hulk of Liatach on one side and sheltered by Ben Damph (Beinn Damh) on the other.

Choice of Accommodation

The Torridon as the estate is collectively known, provides travellers visiting the picturesque region of Wester Ross in the rugged northwest Scottish Highlands, with three accommodation choices: the aforementioned hotel, a luxurious self-catering two-bedroom cottage right on the edge of the loch (The Boat House) and simple but comfortable and ensuite accommodation at the Torridon Inn for the more budget conscious.

Luxurious Country House Hotel

In the main hotel the public areas, restaurant and individually styled bedrooms are fittingly grand for this castle-like property. During our visit we stayed in a spacious suite, ‘The Torridon’, a which came complete with a four-poster bed and an over-sized bathroom featuring a stand-alone bath. The real highlight, though, was the large bay window that afforded spectacular views over the silvery loch and hulking Torridon mountains.

The Torridon is very much a family business, and this is telling in the careful attention to detail, in terms of finishing touches and customer care, that the current owners Daniel and Rohaise Rose-Bristow pride themselves on.

The crowning glory in our room (aside the view) were the two ridiculously comfortable chaise longues that allowed us to sit back and admire the magnificent. This careful attention to detail manifested itself time and time again during our stay. For example The Torridon provide guests with hot water bottles to help keep them cosy on warm winter nights. The Rose-Bristows also strive to meet and great guests, many of who are repeat visitors.

Eating and drinking are popular pastimes at the Torridon with a whisky bar and fine-dining restaurant tempting from the main hotel and the restaurant at the Inn serving good quality comfort food. For visitors who want to do more than bask in the hotels spectacular setting.

Torridon Activities

The Torridon has its own activity centre. Torridon Activities offer a range of activities from clay pigeon shooting through to guided hill walks and gorge scrambling. During our visit we went out on a guided hike that took us up and over a mountain pass and opened up the spectacular Torridon views even further.
