Border Battles
Since time immemorial Scotland and England have battled for control of the Scottish Borders and it is easy to see why. This is a richly scenic sweep of moorland, rugged hills and spectacular coastline. Today tourists have replaced warriors, coming in search of world-class fishing, charming market towns and the eclectic layers of history that make the Borders so compelling. Swirl in the epic ghosts of ruined abbeys and a flurry of grand country houses and you can understand why most first timers are instantly besoted with the Borders.
Often ignored by many overseas visitors making a beeline for the Highlands, but much cherished by Lowland Scots, any visit to the former Borders badlands is these days amply rewarded.
