A more natural Midlothian attraction are the Pentland Hills. These chunky hills rise up just to the south of Edinburgh and offer sweeping views of the city. We love walking here at all times of year, but especially in winter when they offer a safer alternative to the Highlands. There are myriad walks to suit all fitness levels including all day epics that take in a number of peaks. In recent years the Pentland Hills have also become more and more popular for mountain biking.
