Fans of group walking can also enjoy the rich range of festivals that bring like-minded individuals together. Some of the most renowned include the Caithness and Sutherland Walking Festival and the Ballater Walking Festival, which are both held in May. The Glen Affric Walking Festival is a wee gem in June that tackles a very remote area, while later in the year the Cowal Walking and Arts Festival makes the most of the autumn colours on the Cowal Peninsula.

Angus Glens Walking Festival

One of the stars of the festival circuit is the Angus Glens Walking Festival, an event that has something for everyone with walks for all ages and abilities from May 30-June 2 this year. The venue is the picture postcard perfect Angus Glens area, one of the most underrated hiking regions in Scotland.

The Angus Glens Walking Festival allows people of all ages and abilities to get out into the hills in the safety of a guided group with over 20 walks in total. The festival has been going strong for a number of years now, but recently they have added a number of new walks, including options labelled ‘extremely strenuous’, ideal for fit and experienced walkers who might normally find a walking festival too tame. It is the sort of event that highlights all that is good about walking in Scotland, a country where walking is so indelibly etched into the national psyche.
