The long private drive through the leafy grounds hints at the grandeur to come to at Ballathie House Hotel. A real country house hotel, the public rooms boast roaring fires and floor to ceiling windows that look out over the manicured lawns and River Tay beyond. The first time we visited Ballathie we stayed in the main body of the hotel, where the individually styled guest rooms have the same country house feel and offer similarly spectacular views.
Tranquil Riverside Rooms at Ballathie House Hotel
On this trip we stayed in the Riverside Rooms. Our ground floor suite – complete with a bedroom and private lounge, a garden that could be accessed through a private rear door, our own outdoor furniture (a small table and four chairs) and life affirming views of the River Tay and surrounding countryside – was ideal for our needs. The space that we had gave our two children plenty of room to play, letting Mum and Dad take time to enjoy the location. It also gave us direct access to the woodland and riverside walks that start within Ballathie’s grounds.
Superb Food at Ballathie House Hotel
Ballathie were hosting a wedding during our visit, which gave us the chance to dine in both of their restaurants – the Dining Room and the Bistro (which opens when the main restaurant is holding a private event). Under the stewardship of Head Chef Scott Scorer both restaurants delivered a lovely meal that made the most of produce from Perthshire and further afield in Scotland. The Dining Room first delivered classic cuisine with a modern twist in refined surrounds, while the Bistro was a much more rustic experience.
If you’ve been hankering after a stay in a country house hotel head to Ballathie, where elegant rooms, attractive grounds, great cuisine and very competitive room rates all add to its irresistible charm.
