Opening its doors in October 2014, this family fun restaurant is a welcome addition to both the Leith and Edinburgh dining scenes. Serving mouth-watering dishes from the Indian subcontinent, the elegant interior of Agoon Pani is an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. It’s light and spacious interior is both elegant and contemporary, and features oversized lampshades, a sleek bar, ornate whitewashed balustrades and crisp white linen. The restaurant also offers great views over The Shore and the Water of Leith.

First Rate Indian Food in Elegant Surrounds

Agoon Pani’s refined setting sets high expectations for its food; and the food certainly doesn’t disappoint. Incorporating dishes from sub-continental India – an area which includes India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan – the menu offers more variety than you might get in a more run of the mill Indian eatery. Spoilt for choice we opted to try two prawn starters. The Prawn Puri (served in a puffed bread and with a crisp side salad) and the Prawn Hotpot both delivered a pleasingly spicy finish without overwhelming the delicate flavour of the steamed prawns. Next we shared generous servings of a perfectly spiced Saag Dall Gost – tender pieces of lamb cooked with creamy spinach and lentils – and a Tandoori Kebab platter packed full of flavour and brimming with chicken, lamb and prawns. We also feasted on Bombay Aloo (potato curry) and a Sabzi Bhaji (a tasty mixed vegetable curry), accompanied by mushroom rice and puffy garlic naan.

Pleasantly full and with our tastebuds still tingling, we left Agoon Pani, knowing that we would soon be back to try some of the other dishes that tempt from the menu of Edinburgh’s great new Indian restaurant.
